Adapting to Our New Reality

What a crazy time we are living in. The year 2020. Didn’t it start out feeling magical and like nothing could go wrong? And doesn’t it give you an uneasy feeling in your stomach now when you look back at it all? 2020 has been a year for the books. Maybe not a book we want to all remember, but it has definitely been an impactful and significant time for our world. I know it would be very difficult to find someone that has not been affected in some way by COVID-19 and I know the only thing getting a lot of people through these crazy times is the fact that we are all in this together. We are all being tested on our ability to adapt. No one is in this alone. This is our world. A new reality.

Some people are choosing to use this time as a time to sulk and mourn their losses. I don’t blame them, but this time could also be used as an opportunity for many, especially small businesses, to reinvent themselves and focus on what is really important. We have been on lockdown. Our only way of communicating is through technology. Fortunately, we were already living in a mostly digital world. This has been a time to see who is with the time and who is straggling behind it. However, those that were straggling behind could take this time at home to reevaluate how their businesses function and why they do it that way. If a business is still sending out paper fliers to their clients, it may be a time to learn how to get in contact and promote their business permanently digitally. This time gives businesses the chance to grow and become more than what they were. Restaurants are now adding permanent outdoor seating and will be able to accommodate more customers long-term. It is all about how we use this time and whether we see this as a time for depression or opportunity.

This is a time for invention, transformation, and getting caught up. This is a time for people to get their businesses up to speed with the present and prepare for the future. If nothing else, this is an eyeopener that anything can happen. This is a time to strategize. We must figure out how to prepare for the unexpected. This is a time to put minds together and be innovative. We are in this together and must adapt together. This is our reality.
